THE NORTHERN NATURAL WONDER: BADAB-E SURT
Found in the beautiful Northern countryside of Iran, this ancient breathtaking ecological anomaly has had every visitor absolutely awe-struck with its exceptionally rare beauty since the time it was discovered. Badab-e Surt is a collection of magnificent terraced sediment formations located high up in the mountain of the Mazandaran Province. Created through thousands of years of flowing natural hot springs, there are two separate springs that’ve contributed to this masterpiece. One is relatively clear and very salty and the other is orange and very sour tasting, due to iron oxide. Come along with goingIRAN to learn and discover more about this attraction!
For many years these natural spring waters have been renowned as a cure for rheumatism and various skin conditions. The carbonated waters bubble up from the two springs and create a gel-like layer which later turns hard into travertine . For millennia this process has slowly and continuously repeated; which has resulted in this unique stepped formation. Bad-ab translates to ‘gassy-water’ in Persian and Surt pertains to the old name of the Orost Village. The beautiful mirror-like water sitting in the steps create a phenomenal contrast with the lush green environment surrounding these formations. Many of the travellers and tourists visiting this area choose to camp out in the untouched nature. Don’t be fooled, if you think the view is good during the day, wait until you catch a glimpse of it during the sunset and night!
