Aside from their mesmerizing beauty, the bridges that were built over Zayanderud had the function of connecting the south and north parts of Esfahan together.
One of these bridges was designated to the residents of Kakh-e Haft Dast (The Castle of Seven Hands) and Kushk-e Ayenekhaneh (The Palace of Mirrors).
Historians have concluded that the construction of some bridges In Iran to date to before the Achaemenid Empire. Studies of the historical tablets found from Shush (Elamites) and Babel (Mesopotamians) reveal their ancient origins.
Ancient documents have also revealed some bridges belonging to medieval times. Such specimens are located in Karkheh (Elamite), Tigris and Euphrates (Mesopotamia) and over the rivers of the Zagros Mountains.
